Abstract

Herpes simplex virus antigen was demonstrated to inhibit E-rosette formation in most cases of herpetic eye infection in contrast to those of adenovirus eye infection or healthy donors in whom inhibition of spontaneous E-rosette formation in the presence of herpes virus antigen is observed much more rarely. It is suggested that inhibition of E-rosette formation is associated with specific sensitivity of lymphocytes of the subjects under study to herpes antigen. It is also suggested that spontaneous E-rosette formation may be used to determine the degree of T-lymphocyte response to herpes virus antigen.
